It’s
all About You!
Wellness is the Patient Centered Process
Most people think that absence of disease or symptoms constitutes
wellness. In reality true wellness is much more. According to Taber’s
Medical Dictionary health is: “A condition in which all functions
of the body and mind are normally active. The World Health Organization
defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, or social
well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
Chiropractors
believe in the development of a life-long path for health promotion
and disease prevention. Other than our genetic makeup, each of us
has the opportunity to achieve the state of optimum health through
active participation and knowledge we obtain throughout our life.
That state of well being has been the basis of chiropractic health
care for over 100 years. To each of us, our health is a matter of
making informed choices and allowing our body to function as it
was intended.
Health
is about balance in our lives and taking responsibility. The human
body has within itself the ability to heal and monitor itself. The
doctor within is greater than the doctor on the outside. For example,
if a child has chronic ear infections and is taking numerous doses
of antibiotics, their immune system ultimately becomes weaker. So
when the get an infection, their body does not handle it as well.
By adjusting this same child, we can help the ears to clear naturally,
and the immune system becomes stronger.
Wellness
is not just the absence of disease; it is the sum total of a lifestyle
of eating a well balanced diet, avoiding too much fast and processed
food, exercising regularly. Plus regular chiropractic adjustments
will keep your body well tuned just like a precision automobile.
Edger
Watson Howe said it best, “Take care of your body, eat and exercise
properly and you mind will improve. Work hard and be polite and
fair and your condition in the world will improve. No pills, tablets,
lotions or philosophies will do as much.” These recommendations
will provide years of great health and wellness. Remember…it’s all
about you!
