Warning about Pain Killers that Kill Women
Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS) are weve
been told for years, harmless. Weve been told they prevent
breast cancer and heart disease. They cure arthritis. Women should
pop pain killers every day from the time theyre 40.
Not
so fast.
Research
funded by pharmaceutical companies that make NSAIDs recommended
NSAIDs and aspirin to prevent breast cancer and heart disease. Research
not funded by drug companies found no benefit whatsoever.
NSAIDs
work by cutting off the hormones involved in inflammation, called
prostaglandins. Trouble is, some of these same hormones are also
helpful because they are anti-inflammatory. So NSAIDs can actually
stop your bodys natural anti-inflammatory response. Inflammation
has been linked to both cancer and heart disease. One of the best
selling NSAIDs, Viox, has been shown to increase risks of heart
attack by 24% as well as risks of heart disease and stroke. This
was just recently taken off the market. Women who take NSAIDs frequently
can also experience chronic heartburn, gastrointestinal hemorrhages,
ulcers, fluid retention, dizziness, high blood pressure and impaired
live and kidney function. Rebound headaches are a well-known side-effect.
There is a possibility that aspirin also raises the risk of pancreatic
cancer in women. Even more alarming though, are reports linking
pain killers in general, not just Viox, to a 4 times greater incident
of heart attacks!
So,
next time you pop a pain killer, think twice.
