Chiropractic
was discovered by DD Palmer
Chiropractic was discovered by DD Palmer in 1895 and we have always
maintained that we have a different approach to the delivery of
health care than traditional medicine. We have always said, “Chiropractic
First, Medicine Second, and Surgery Last.” To that, the scientific
community and many patients have always said, “Show me the research”,
“Show me the statistics”, and “Show me the studies.”
Well
guess what? That information is coming out on a regular basis with
the same result in many studies done by government and non-governmental
agencies. For example:
- News
of a pilot program to expand chiropractic coverage in Medicare
was reported in the April 7, 2005 issue of the Senior Journal.
The purpose of this pilot program is to determine the impact on
satisfaction, use of services, and costs for Medicare beneficiaries.
- According
to George Devries, president and CEO of American Specialty Health,
a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine shows that employees
with chiropractic insurance coverage had 41% fewer hospitalizations
for back pain than employees without chiropractic coverage. Employees
with chiropractic coverage also had 32% fewer back surgeries and
significantly lower utilization rates for expensive procedures
such as CT and MRI scans as well as X-rays when compared with
employees without chiropractic insurance.
- According
to a survey released in December 2004 from the Center for Studying
Health System Change (HSC), about 6 million Americans turned to,
what they called “Complementary and alternative medicine”, know
as CAM, to treat conditions such as chronic pain and depression
because conventional medicine was too pricey. The article noted
that the 6 million represented about 13% of all those who used
non-medical care did so mainly for the benefits and cost savings.
Although
chiropractic is much more than a treatment for pain, more and more
the general public is coming to find out what we already know. Chiropractic
is safer, more effective, and more cost efficient than traditional
medical care.
The
difference between chiropractic and medicine has been, is now, and
always will be the location, detection, and correction of the vertebral
subluxation.

in health,
