New FDA Web Site Exposes Drug Risks to Public
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may finally be taking a step
in the right direction. After being publicly scrutinized by Congress,
medical experts and consumers for its slow response to emerging
information about cardiovascular risks prompted by pain medication,
the FDA is starting to offer risk information to the public much
sooner.
How?
The agency has launched a new Web site, Drug Watch, which will issue
alerts to patients and doctors regarding drug safety concerns.
So
far, the safety alerts posted on the site are significant, as they
highlight the risks posed by doctors prescribing drugs for purposes
never approved by the FDA, an approach know as “off-label prescribing.”
Simply
put, all drugs have the potential to cause side effects. Aspirin
is linked to over 2000 liver and kidney disorders a year, in fact
one aspirin can cause ulceration of the lining of the stomach. Try
putting an aspirin in your mouth and leave it there for a few minutes.
It will start to ulcerate the lining of your mouth.
There
are thousands of drugs that have been approved by the FDA because
they were scientifically proven to cure or prevent disease, in addition
to having been touted as safe. Then, years later, they have been
taken off the market because they had been newly proven to either
not cure or prevent those diseases as originally thought, or those
drugs were found to have such terribly adverse side effects that
they are simply too dangerous for people to use.
Best bet, exercise, eat well, rest and get adjusted on a regular
basis.

Ps:
I usually don’t use the medium to endorse a product or service,
but my experience with Pleasanton Mortgage has been so exceptional
that I wanted to share it with you. I’ve used Kurt Kessler twice
for re-financing my home. He was able to find an incredible loan
for us at a great rate. He was able to help us through a few sticky
situations that a large firm wouldn’t bother with. He is very knowledgeable
in his field. If you are thinking about buying a home, or re-financing
I would encourage you to give him a call at (925) 462-3750.
