Osteoporosis
- Prevention through Chiropractic
Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for 28 million Americans, 80% of whom are women. Annual treatment costs for osteoporosis exceeds $15 billion. One out of every two women and one in eight men over the age of 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. The most common sites for osteoporotic fractures are the wrist, spine and hip.
Osteoporosis occurs when the lose of bone is greater than the rebuilding of bone causing the bones to become week and frail.
Some things that you can do to prevent osteoporosis are:
- weight bearing exercise
- diet and supplementation with calcium and vitamin D
- Chiropractic care
Things to avoid:
- smoking
- excess alcohol or caffeine
- sedentary lifestyle
- underweight
- corticosteroid medications
Chiropractic care helps exercise the joints, allowing the bones to grow stronger. It also helps regulate and balance your hormonal system. This helps balance the body chemistry to maintain proper calcium homeostasis in the blood.
